13.3.3 Business Licences and Permits

In this theme you have learnt that depending on the nature of the business, an organisation may need licences to operate.

Sam Anderson wants to start a Mexican food restaurant in your local city, but he is unsure about the types of permits and licenses that are necessary for his business.

His restaurant is scheduled to start operating within the next three months. As you are an entrepreneur with experience in this area, he has sought your advice on the categories of licenses and permits that may be needed for his business. 

Task: Advise Sam on the licences or permits he may need and inform him of why he needs them and where and how to obtain them

To help Sam in the best way that you can, you may need to answer the following:

1.       What organisations provide licence information?

2.       What types of permits and/or licences will he need?

3.       Are there any government web pages that can help?

4.       Can you access any online tools that will help with your advice for Sam?

This list is not exhaustive, so you will need to do a comprehensive search so that you can fully advise Sam and also guarantee that your advice is correct. Remember to check your facts and confine your search for information to UK rules.
