In this theme you have learnt that copyright is a form of intellectual property protection that grants to the owner of a work of authorship the legal right to determine how the work is used and to obtain the economic benefits from the work.

Consider the following tasks. Prepare a paragraph, justifying your comments.

Task 1: What is meant by the phrase copyright infringement?

Describe what copyright infringement means in as much detail as possible. You may want to give examples to illustrate your answer.

Task 2: Is copyright infringement a minor or a major problem in the UK and the United States and in other countries?

To complete this task, you could think about/research the following:

1.     Is copyright infringement more prevalent in some sectors?

2.     Does the scale of infringement vary from country to country?

3.     What can be done by the copyright owner when infringement is identified?
