  • Here is the recent (30/08/23) all-staff communication from Kaplan's CEO, Andrew Rosen, regarding the upcoming opportunities for the business in relation to generative AI:

    Team –

By now, you've probably been hearing through multiple channels, including in the Q2 Quarterly Update Event (QUE), that the rise of Generative AI technology presents tremendous opportunity for our business, and that I am expecting all parts of Kaplan to lean in to exploring how GenAI can enable us to create new value for our customers and our teams. (If you have not yet seen the Q2 QUE, you can find a recording here: QUE Q2 (globalconnect.mykaplan.tv), along with the 20-minute Gen AI Primer (globalconnect.mykaplan.tv) we shared in that session addressing GenAI fundamentals.) To that end, I'd like to share two new opportunities to support and encourage generative AI experimentation across the organization.

First, over the next two months, we will be providing secure access for all Kaplan employees to an online platform that leverages Generative AI capabilities for producing text, translation, images, and video. We will do this for a limited time to enable all of us to experiment with GenAI-supported content creation. Think of it as a safe, short-term opportunity to gain exposure while our divisions are in the process of establishing enterprise-wide solutions that we can use for business purposes. To access the toolkit, visit Daisy (creatwithdaisy.com), skip the payment options, click on the sign in button on the upper right side of the screen, and enter your work email address (only Kaplan domains will be recognized) and you will be emailed a link to create a new password and login for the platform. You will also receive, within one business day, access to a complimentary, optional, 20 minute GenAI introductory course.

As part of the toolkit, we’ve included a GenAI use case with a fun capability: customized Kaplan Way Awards (KWA) nomination tools which enable you to generate up to two (2) video avatars announcing your nominations – which can then be shared with your nominees. Note these tools are purely for the purpose of experimentation and the content developed will not be shared with the Kaplan Way Awards committee. Later this week, you will be receiving an email from Kaplan Way Awards with the official nomination form as well as the KWA program guide. For more information on the GenAI platform and the experimental KWA nomination tools, including instructions on how to generate the avatars, visit Daisy GenAI Toolkit FAQ (cdn.bfldr.com).

Also this year, we will use the Kaplan Way Awards to spotlight individuals and teams who have demonstrated creativity and innovation in exploring and experimenting with GenAI-fueled solutions that enhance the customer experience, support employee workflows, or otherwise enable better outcomes. As I noted in the QUE, a lot of the best ideas are going to come from those who are dealing directly with students, or partners, or internal processes every day. If you or one of your colleagues has come up with a creative AI solution, nominate them for a Kaplan Way Award! I’m looking forward to hearing about all of the ways in which all of you are harnessing this technology.

I know some of you are actively engaged in enterprise-wide AI initiatives within our units, or exploring ways AI can improve workflows. As with anything related to AI, we are learning as we go and with our Kaplan GenAI use guidelines (cdn.bfldr.com) always in mind. It will be through experimentation and learning, figuring out what works and what doesn’t add to real value, that we will ultimately succeed. Our future growth relies on our ability both to turbocharge our productivity and to create new value for customers that differentiates us in the marketplace—and doing so in a way that aligns with our values. That means sitting on the GenAI sidelines is not an option.

Our commitment to continuous transformation has served us well over the years, and Kaplan’s ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving landscape has been a company hallmark. I hope you are as energized as I am by the road ahead.
